I split my WD to work on the hand clutch and one of the plates is pretty worn. I was cleaning it to better inspect and one of the clutch pads was thin enough that a large chuck basically fell right off.

I've seen a thread about going to a 3 disc hand clutch and I've seen ppl ask about using the outside plates, but to me it looks like the inside plate from a 3 plate system would be the replacement of either plate in the 2 plate system.

I'm sure I'm not the first to look for replacement discs.... any advice? Or should I say any way to fix this that is still "right" without buying 2 old style plates for $300? I know I could go used, but not sure about the life/quality and still spending about $150 - that just seems over priced.

Maybe I am being too cheap.

Are those clutch parts available new anymore? Seems I haven't heard of anyone buying new anymore. Makes me a little worried to slip mine too much. I know they "last forever", but at 60 years forever could run out.

Hand clutch plates are available new on Amazon, Ebay, and various parts places on line- should be able to get from local dealer as well... but - I have found the newer 3 pack discs are easier to find than the 2 disc packs.

I found a parts tractor and harvested a 3 disc pack. So I ended up splitting 2 tractors :) I highly recommend the threaded rod method -it's easier than it sounds. Just takes time to take out all the bolts. If it won't split easily you have missed a bolt - keep looking!

The only thing I seemed to have missed is where to hook up the spring that connects to the hand clutch cover plate.... or - I have 1 spring left over and a whole in the cover plate ( I think it connected there! )

Spring hole to be located at the right front corner. The spring (which may be missing) goes down and connects to the Traction Booster lever on the side of the hydraulic pump to pull upwards on the lever.
