Had to get dads WD out of second yesterday with a screwdriver. Went to pull the shifter and there was no snap ring. Just a thin metal washer with a lip on it. Parts book shows a washer and snap ring. Aftermarket parts show a snap ring and what looks to be a pretty thick round washer that looks like a metal o ring. What should be holding it all down?

Hmmmm - snap rings need a groove to rest in else they don't do more than serve as an ornament! I'll take a look......

Aaron, on my WD45 the top of the tower is 'indented' a bit for about 1/4" down (looking down from above the tranny cover) creating a lip at the top of the tower. The snap ring sits just below the indentation or lip. Looking at my Parts catalog, I'm seeing both the straight and curved shifter trannys with the same arrangement. Having looked at the actual tranny, I can see the tower lip described above. Hopefully this helps

Yeah, that is how they work. Just not sure about this thin cup washer when the pictures show an oring style metal washer and snap ring. I dont feel like pulling his WD45 apart to see what's under it.
