Ok so I need to know the correct way to time a d17. In the inspection port on the side of the tractor when number 1 plug fires should the F-25 that's on the flywheel be visible in that inspection port. I'm guessing yes. The only problem is with mine that once a load is put on the engine it starts to miss loses power. Do also when you time it is it at idle or full throttle. I've read both looking this up on different websites some say at idle and some say full throttle. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

WIDE OPEN....FULL THROTTLE....F-25.

Is the mechanical advance working? They tend to get neglected and set up on these old tractors.

Wouldn't checking your timing at idle and wide open tell you if the advance was working?

Correct. At high idle it needs to be F-25. At a very low idle (400 RPM) it should be close to TDC.
