Anyone know how to put a shift boot on a WC? With that reverse lockout on it, you can't just slide it over from the top.  Parts book shows a snap ring.  Does that come off and pull the shift lever and put the boot on from the bottom?

I've done a few and I remove the shift lockout latch, rod and bellcrank and pivot shaft, being carefull not to let the lower rod drop down into the shift tower as it is spring loaded. (Sometimes easier with someone to hold the rod while you slide the new boot down from the top!)  Once the new boot is down past the bellcrank. re-install the bellcrank and pivot shaft, then slide the boot down into position.  Use some dish soap or some other lube to help it slide on. Once the boot is on then re-install the rod and latch.

There may be a better way but this has worked for me.
