Decided to finally replace the steering wheel on the WD45 as the old one is badly deteriorated. With a replacement and a brother to help in hand, we went at it. Drilled the pin and applied hammer and drift pin. No joy. Tried heat. No joy. Getting the old one off wasn't going well when he asked if I had an air hammer in the shop. After some discussion and research, we acquired one.....what a tool! Easily drove out the pin and drove the hub off the shaft. Proving once again that having the right tool on hand is a wonderful thing!

I had the exact same experience with a large roll pin. 2 seconds with an air chisel with pin attchachment after beating on it for two hours with hammer and pin punch. I could not believe it.

Grandpa has one, and he likes it. I've never used one.

My favorite tool is my cutting torch. Before it, if I had to heat something and bend it or cut it, I would just wait until I had several things to cut/bend and I would build a fire out back and heat the pieces up that way and shape them with a hammer and anvil.

Now with the flick of a striker I have instant, portable heat! Makes removing badly rusted nuts a breeze!

I bought one when I had to go thru my basement wall to replace an elbow in the sewer line, just bought a cheapy HF one as I've really never needed one before and didn't wanna spend a lot, cuz I prolly wouldn't need one again. and you are right, that this is the bestest buddy! I still haven't used it again, but prolly will when I start dismantling combines!
