Can someone explain how the system works? Changed water pump, refilled radiator and started it up. Ran at idle for 25 min and temp gauge got to middle of green but bottom hose was cold, top hose was cool but the short hose between pump and thermostat housing was too hot to touch. The heater hose is turned off at the block . Thanx

Have you rechecked the antifreeze once it cooled down? The thermostat can seal water off and make an air pocket in the top of the engine.

The bypass allows some coolent to circulate. After coolent gets hot enough for thermostat to open the top hose will be hot and bottom hose will be warm. Put a load on it. MACK

Will have to wait til morning to check. Attempted to right after shutdown but could not get the cap off without a mess. Figured there would be air in system but hoped it would work its way out when stat opened

Hopefully tomorrow it will get a workout in the beans. BTW,why is the scale for cylinder height on sides of feederhouse not on 1/8 inch intervals with a real tape measure? I figure it has to do with curve of cylinder and its floor?

I'll check tomorrow but I think it is based on the piviot point vs the location of the gauge.

The guage is a long way in front of the center of the cyl which is where you setting clearance. Also the numbers don't match reality.Open the trap door and use a piece of flat iron between the cyl bars and concaves for true setting, then make a note telling the difference.on my F2 I have the gauges low as they go(think I even slotted them some more) and my note in paint pen on the feeder house says 1/4 = 3/8....
