I noticed that the battery box is in a different position from the IBs I've seen. Looks like a nice tractor. The rebuild didn't include the bottom end, just sleeves and pistons. Thanks. everything you can see in the small photo looks great. Hope the paint is as good as it looks........ seems odd to me to pull the sleeves and pistons and not do the "bottom end".... he had to take the rods off the crank to get them out the top with the pistons.... your 90% of the way there at that point...cant do a real good job of cleaning the block internal without removal of the crank and mains.... I would ask how the oil pressure is at idle and full throttle when hot. That will tell you something. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Thanks Steve. I thought it looked really good and it's priced pretty good too. He wasn't firm on his price either. Maybe he did do the crank, but didn't list that when asked. I have my eye either on this or a wide-front C that is a basket case. Not sure I want another project, but it's closer than the IB. At only 2900 or so made, I think the IB would be cool to own. Steve I think an IB would be great to own. That one sure does look pretty. As to the motor that does seem odd. Might have been an in frame probably got bearings but didn't pull the crank and have it turned if there where some minor flaws on it they might have been ok to leave but the owner might not want to say it was a full overhaul if he didn't have the crank measured or the oil pump check. Just a guess. A typical top half rebuild only is having the head off and sent to a machine shop to get the valves fixed but not touching the rings and bearings. I was always told the rings and bearing are a lower end rebuild head upper end rebuild. But either way I would agree check the oil pressure and ask if you can do a compression test easy enough to do and it will tell you alot. To me if it doesn't smoke the water and oil are good and the gears seen to work the price is right. I know you can paint them but to me a motor job would be less daunting if you had to go back into that for any reason then one that needs a full cleanup and paint. As you know that is alot of time and labor to get them looking good. Best of luck with your choice. Someday maybe I will own an IB but maybe not I have enough tractors to fix now as it is. |

Thanks Bill, Steve, Dan. I really like this little tractor. Would make a nice addition to my small collection--with little work! I agree Dan. The motor is less daunting than a repaint. I hate that! Hub, I bought an IB 15 years ago with a rebuilt motor, rotten fenders, crappy paint, decent tires, and it cost me $2800. Your should be worth the asking price easy. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Steve you are correct. Most would think the B would be longer, but the IB has the longer drag link, (44 1/4" for the IB, and 39 3/8" for the B). If you look at the IB picture, you can see that the steering gear box is farther back than on the B. The torque tube is shorter on the IB in the area aft of the Steering gear box. I called the guy tonight. Okay. It does have a few issues. He says sometimes the starter won't engage. Sounds like it could be a ring gear. He got it at auction several years ago and it smoked. He said he pulled the head and could tell it needed new rings. So he said he resleeved it and put new rings in. He says it runs great all day and no smoke. I still think it's a good deal. He says it has a foot throttle but it's not hooked up. I'm thinking about it--hard!

Tractor looks real good. Good Paint and tires. If you are thinking hard you may as well make an offer. Frankly, I would love to see you get an IB. I know you will take good care of my favorites brother. Also, I really don't think the foot throttle is that hard to hook up. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck! Bill Long
