| My son has a wd with the straight shifter. It's stuck in gear so I took the shifter tower off of the trans. there are three gears controlled by the shift forks and the two towards the rear slide easily forwards and back. The gear towards the front of the trans will not slide at all? Tried to use a pry bar but no luck? Any thoughts?? Thanks |

There are 5 gears controlled by the shifter. The 2 forks on the left shift forward and back of neutral so each fork has 2 gears. The right side is reverse gear. All 3 forks have to be in the neutral position to install the shift lever. If the ball on the bottom of the shifter is wore, it can get out of wack again. The ball can be welded up to keep this from happening , but if you make sure you shift SQUARE each time, it may not get jammed up again. Don't try to shift at an angle from second to third. Shift straight up to neutral, over and straight up to 3rd and you may be OK for a while.

| I get all of that but that doesn't help out with the gear that wont slide into neutral. is there something like a snap ring or something that may have broken that is keeping the gear from sliding back? Is it possible that the gear has slide too far on the shaft and come off of the splines? I have looked online for a breakdown on the trans but with no luck. Am I wrong to think that the gear should slide forward and back easily on the main shaft? |

| If it is setting on a hill it may have pressure against it. Release both clutches with brakes set should help. MACK |

| Tried that with no results. The gear will spin on the main shaft but won't slide?? This weekend I'm going to jack up the rear and try to spin the wheels and maybe that will help? |

I'm wondering if there isn't a piece of metal wedged between the gear teeth. Nudging the tractor backwards may free it if so. |

| I believe the gear you are talking about in the input gear which does not move. When you look in transmission you should see a gear at front, behind it is a gear with a slot for shifting fork, behind it should be a double gear with a slot for a shifting fork. That is all that is on top shaft. MACK |

| That being the case, what does the third fork from the shifter do? Maybe I'm really missing something here and it's right under my nose? The front gear does spin but seems to do so independent of the main shaft until you let the clutch out? I will take another look to see if I'm going crazy or not. |

The third fork moves the reverse gear. |

| For 4th gear it couples the single gear with shifter grove to very front gear that you say turns. For 3rd it slides the same gear towards the rear and meshes with a gear on bottom shaft. MACK |
