I have noticed oil on top of the tranny of my 160. Today while going down the road I looked down and seen oil coming up around the shift lever. Seems to only do this at higher rpms. Bad shift boot or worse?

Uncle's 185 does the same thing. Says there is a seal on back of trans case that separates it from the next one and that is a split job to replace seal.

How does oil get to the lift cylinder on the 160? On the d serries there is a hydraulic line that goes to the lift cylinder and if that line brakes it will do what you discribed when you try to use the lift. I am betting your hydraulic oil is low.

If both compartments use the same oil you can do the poor mans fix and connect both together with a hose/fittings so that the level will stay the same in both.

There should be a vent for the trans and hydraulic reservoir, if plugged it will force oil out. Leon
