Hi first post, need a little help. The fingers on the conveyer auger on my gleaner k2 flex head are loose. The problem in excessive play in the aluminum fittings the fingers screw into. These fittings are on a shaft. How does the shaft come out? Does the whole conveyer auger have to come out or can you remove it without much trouble. The plastic sleeves in the aluminum fittings are long gone. This excessive play allows the fingers to hit the bed of the header when the conveyer revolves. I want to do beans in the next couple of weeks so need to get this fixed asap. Thanks in advance for any help.

I can tell you it's a pain. You will have to pull the shaft out of the right side of the auger and work on everything through the access cover in the center section. The cam lock collar bearings most likely won't move and will have to be cut off with a torch. I did ours and the neighbors a couple years ago. There is no real good way to pry or hammer inside that auger. I had a doner head so I was a little torch happy. Good luck

Yikes, I was afraid of something like that! I think I can limp along through harvest, only about 60 acres of light (drought) soybeans.
I don't know if I can get away with just bearing sleeves inside the retainers, they are all egg shaped and are allowing the fingers to contact the floor of the header, worn some slots on a few. Did you get away with sleeves or did you have to replace the aluminium finger retainers too?

might have a machine shop make some sleeves outta steel and bolt them onto the fittings the fingers screw into....prolly get you thru harvest, then you'll have time to dismantle the header.
fill in those slots in the header floor or you'll lose a lot of beans! then you just as well paint your combine green!

If a finger catches and cuts the auger into, you'll wish you had fixed it before you started. They are not hard to rebuild. FIRST thing to do is remove all fingers. MACK

To get by, raise the auger so the finger no longer contacts the floor.
If the smaller 20 inch auger is like the 24 inch, you can pull the offset shaft without pulling any of the outer shafts.

When I did the head on my F that I used to have, I removed all the fingers, loosened the clamp blocks that hold the finger shaft and slid the shaft as far left as possible. Then I slid the right block as far right as possible which then cleared the shaft so everything could be slipped off and installed new plastic bushings and the new blocks were steel. Wasn't a real nice to do job, but got it done.
