What seats interchange with the D17 Series 4 seat?
I assume mine has the remains of a pan seat. Apparently my FIL broke off most of it, drilled a couple holes in what was left of the pan and mounted a JD lawnmower seat. The seat leans forward and is uncomfortable as ****. Will the pan seat off a D15 interchange (simply take it loose at the hinge and replace the pan) or are there better after market replacement units out there?
Any way to strengthen the spring suspension on the set up - or do you just buy a new spring? Even my son noticed that it bottomed out while test driving it and he only weighs 150 pounds - I have almost 100 pounds on him and I know I'll put it to the test.

Seats of the entire D series are largely very similar (except for D10/12). The spring and shock suspensions are the same and are interchangeable. The seat pans all attach via one pin to allow for tipping over. Therefore, a D15 seat is a direct fit on the D17 suspension.
Speaking of your suspension, it is possible that the shock is worn out - new ones are available. While you are at it, you might want to replace all the pins and bushings, this will really tighten up everything. Also, for a firmer ride, adjust the shock so that it is positioned more vertical. if the top bolt is not kept tight, it tends to slide down over time (making for a softer ride).

I replaced the shock assembly in mine got it from stiners. I would also suggest you keep a pan seat if you can find it. The replacement pans have holes in them that look like pinch points to me. There is a padded seat that fits the d15 and d17 I bought one for my d15 but it because a water issue if you leave it outside. My d15 had been assaulted the same as yours them jd lawnmower seats must be dirt cheep or something. I think the new shock and oem seat pan on my d17 is the best solution.

On my D/14 it had a solid pan seat and it would keep your rear end wet in warm weather. I used a 3/4 hole saw and put holes in it using an old WC seat for a pattern. It makes a world of difference. I prefer a metal seat over a padded one .If you have air condition a padded one would be o k.

I like those d serries seats enough that I am going to put one on a different tractor I have that has a very bad seat.
