Hello, I have a gas 190 that I use to mow crp with about 10 hours per year. Every time I start it the steering is terrible (hard to turn) until it gets warmed up. Today I went to move it and not only was the steering hard, but I couldn't get the 3 point to raise the brush hog attached. When I got unhooked from the brush hog the 3 point would raise, but the steering didn't get much better. I then tried to drive around a bit to get it warmed up and the thing felt like it was slipping out of gear (First time that has ever happened). I change the hyd. filter yearly, but have never changed the hyd. oil. To my rather untrained eye I can see the oil on the dipstick looks to have bubbles, but I am not ruling out water? Think changing the oil would help? Any other ideas appreciated!!! |

Never changed the hydraulic oil??? I would definitely start there! Changing the filter yearly without changing the oil is just wasting money. The screen in the hydraulic sump may also be plugged too because of this. pump is sucking air. check all suction side connections, otherwise your pump seal may be bad. I looked through the service manual and could not find much info on the sump screen other than a schematic of how the hydraulics flow. How do I access it, and how should it be cleaned out? Thanks folks!!! |

its it the bottom of the hyd reservoir. drain the oil and remove the bottom plate where the suction tube attaches. unless its an early tractor that still has the inline one behind the frame rail but most of those are changed out. ------------- Me -C,U,UC,WC,WD45,190XT,TL-12,145T,HD6G,HD16,HD20 Dad- WD, D17D, D19D, RT100A, 7020, 7080,7580, 2-8550's, 2-S77, HD15 |

So I feel like these questions keep getting dumber! Please excuse my ignorance I enjoy doing the work myself, but not having hands on knowledgeable guidance can be tricky. After doing some internet research I have read people talking about there being two dipsticks between your feet on the 190. I have always checked the right side one that would come right off. I have never checked the left one. I'm guessing I should go do that. The way I read the right is transmission and the left is hydraulics? If this is the case what does the tank under the seat drain (hydraulics/transmission/both)? |

The plug under the seat drains the transmission ONLY. The hydraulic oil is in the torque tube. There are a couple of plugs to remove to get all the oil out. One is behind the brake rod that goes across the tractor. The other is on the left side on an angle. Here is a picture of the sump (the small thing) when it is removed from the tractor. Well, problem solved! That was one of the biggest bone-headed mistakes I ever made. Checked the correct dipstick and was WAY low. THANK YOU GUYS!!! |
