I'm pretty new to the group and have never posted before. I have a 53 CA. I'm wanting to convert it to a belt driven live hydraulic pump with dual stage cylinders. I'd like to ask the group for help with this type of conversion. I do not want to run an accessory drive style pump. I'm an old heavy equipment operator, but don't really know much about pumps or their workings. I have already done the three point conversion which is great other than the single PTO for pump and propeller. What I'd like to accomplish is both for my brush hog and a back blade. My goal is to have a powered up, down, hold, and float. Additionally pump pressures that I would be shopping parts for. The ability to add tilt and angle would be nice to have as an option. I'm a mechanic and fabricator, just not hydraulics oriented. Thanks in advance for any help. Steve |

| The hardest part is deciding where you want to "drive" the pump from. The crankshaft or crankshaft pulley is the only thing that is truly "live". |

I've seen pictures on Google of a CA with a belt driven pump mounted below the alternator driven by the belt, but couldn't find a follow up link. It was a very slick conversion. I've looked at this style pump on Northern Hydraulics site and have found some that even have an A/C style clutch that can be electronically engaged. They also carry the cylinders and tanks. I don't know what type of pressures I need or understand the language of choosing the correct control valve Preferably a single joy stick lever would be my pick. |

most modern pumps are in the 2-3k psi range. somewhere around 8-12 gpm should be sufficient for what you will be doing. you will want an open center valve which means the oil is always circulating with no pressure until a spool is engaged. i would suggest a two spool valve with 2 levers not a joystick but its your preference. detent float on one spool and spring center on both. ------------- Me -C,U,UC,WC,WD45,190XT,TL-12,145T,HD6G,HD16,HD20 Dad- WD, D17D, D19D, RT100A, 7020, 7080,7580, 2-8550's, 2-S77, HD15 |

It's plenty fast for the blade and everything is out of the way. I did build a loader for it as well and with 2" cylinders it's on the slow side, however, it's good enough for the little bit I need it. If you can find a hydraulic pump that was used on the Farmall H that mounted between the block and distributor would be another way. I also seen where a pump was mounted under the bell housing running with a roller chain off the flywheel. Two holes was put in the bottom for the chain to run thru. I didn't see how the sprocket was mounted to the flywheel. You would need a pump designed for direct drive to a 1750 rpm electric motor.

| My choice would be a 4 to 6 GPM max output pump. The D-17 series 4 was in that 12 GPM range at full throttle and for small diameter cylinders it was waaaaaay too fast. |

hi Steve I do not know anything about this tractor & hydraulics! The pictures are from a go to show out east a couple years ago and I saved the pictures as I like the CA tractors! May be some one else has some information on it for you! DeWayne    |
