| My 24' AC 1300 field cultivator is equipped with 6" shovels & mounted tine harrow. Depending on the primary tillage &/or year, it can leave 4-5" clods even after two passes. I'm thinking of removing the harrow and mounting a set of rolling baskets. Has anyone done the same? If so, which rolling basket brand would you recommend? |

Spring tines, if that's what you mean, are virtually useless in my humble opinion. The spikes shown in John D's setup will help with leveling and finishing, but I don't believe will address clods like you want. Dirt clods or clumps of sod? For dirt clods, I pull an Unverferth rolling basket behind my FC, and I really love it. Baby's butt smooth fields. But it won't do much on sod clumps. |

I don't have much use for a spring tooth harrow. all it does is bunch up and drag trash. The spike tooth like in the picture does a nice job leveling and helps a little with clods. If you really want to break of clods you need a rolling basket. That's why you see so many guys pulling them behind finishers now. If you have really bad clods even the rolling basket will leave a lot. That's usually when the ground was worked to wet or couldn't sit after chiseling. |

We pulled a Unverferth rolling harrow behind our 1300 and now on our 1400. The problem with adding the baskets to the cultivator is weight.
