Finally back to working on this engine and hope to get the head on this weekend.

I bought the reliance engine kit and it comes with a composite head gasket. Head was milled, but block deck is a little off standout .002-.008. Read here if interested.

What's the best Head gasket coating to use? I usually see guys use the copper sealer, but I saw MACK say in a recent post that he always uses Hi-Tack and never liked the copper. I don't see on the Hi-Tack spray bottle where is says for head gaskets, but both say good to 500 degrees. I'd look up manufacturer recommendations, but there's no brand label on the kit. What does everyone have the best luck with?

Usually a composite head gasket will not require sealer. I only use sealer on all metal head gaskets. In those cases I use another Permatex product called Aviation Gasket Sealer #80017. This is a dark brown product that unlike Hi-Tack can be applied without the stringy mess of Hi-Tack. Also it doesn't cement the gasket in place. It can be applied with a small roller or brush. Just remember not to use too much. Probably 90% or more applied will just be squeezing out anyway.

The best head gasket sealant is Hylomar, in a spray can.
