All,

I was baling hay last night with my 190xt and started hearing a high pitched clicking from the valve cover area.  I took the valve cover off and noticed a dry looking valve (looked like a lot of fuzz for lack of a better term).  I started the engine and did not see any oil going to this one valve but I did notice lots oil running out of the front end of the rocker arm shaft, is this normal?

I also checked all the rocker arms for proper clearance with the push rods and they were all good.  It only makes this noise after the engine is up to operating temperature.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

G

I would say the cork plug came out of rocker shaft. With plug out, there is no oil pressure for rockers.
I would take all the rockers off shaft and check for ware.       MACK

The corks rotted out of the rocker arm shaft on my MF-135 with Continental engine and wore out the rocker arm bushings. I had to make new bushings and while I was at it I made a new rocker arm shaft and used 7/16-20 steel set screws for the plugs. I expect them to last a lot longer than the corks.
