WD45 Dual tire narrow front axle questions
.
The left wheel broke off around the center lug area (WD45 Axle pic_2a).

.
.
The center of the rims lug area was still secured by one lug (WD45 Axle pic_1a), which I removed to fully remove the rim from the hub.

None of the 5 lugs were loose, the center rim steel fatigued.

.
.

So I loosed the lower hex head screw (1-1/8" socket) on the #13 assembly and lowered the assembly off the #8 vertical shaft and removed the #9 key stock also.
I scrapped the crud off the support housing that contains the vertical shaft #8.
The broken pieces of the seal fell out along with the metal washer.
The #3 bearing is still on the #8 shaft.
I have about .100" left to right play on the #8 shaft and about that much when pushing the shaft up also.
.
Question #1
Whats the best way to get that bearing out?

Question #2
Does the mating surface of the #13 housing (WD45 Axle pic_3a, see RED arrow) look ok to reuse?

Question #3
Where can I get new bearings and seals for the #8 vertical shaft and the hubs?

Thanks...ed

Ed, I notice at the bottom of the page there is a grease gun and a grease gun filler.  I wonder if these things are still available?  Or if someone has one?  I don't think I've ever seen a grease gun filler.......and I can't find any of the parts numbers in the AGCO parts Books.....

At the factory where I work I think they refill the grease guns. Have something like a small 20gal steel barrel they pump the grease out of and into the gun.

My shaft was wore down where he bearing preload was set too loose. I was able to get a machine shop to weld up the shaft and turn it down and thought I would go ahead and replace the bearing. At the time AGCO said the bearing was no longer available and the one bearing place I went to was unable to match it with anything. If that is still what you find out today be careful with trying to remove the old bearing as to not booger it up if a replacement is not available. Also remember the amount of slop in the pedestal may be due to not having the correct number of bearing preload shims in place. Let us know what you find.

Not sure where the slop is in your system ? I had a custom larger key made to fit the worn key slot. Also, I got new bearings from KAMAN Bearing company.

I was able to pick up part of the bearings from Allen at R&R equiptent in Indianola Iowa but he has since closed up. I got a couple from O'Reillys but it took a month to get them.

Hey Chris and Tom,

Do you have part numbers for those bearings?
Mine is still in the pedestal, I don't want to damage it by taking it out if no replacement is available.

A local bearing distributor can get them for you.

Hey All,
The AC WD45 manual says to use SAE140 in the steering worm gear.
Whats the general consensus here regarding the lube to use?

I'm still looking for bearing numbers for the dual narrow also.

Use grease. Pack the bearing and put a grease zerk in and pump it up. Corn head grease might be a little thinner if you are worried about regular grease being too thick, but you will never wear it out and the gear lube won't leak out on your front wheels either Big smile
If you measure the shaft size and the bore for the outer race, and the stack height, you should be able to get a new bearing that will fit from any bearing supplier. Most won't give a hoot what the part number is or what the  Allis part number was.
I think if you add a 70 in front of the given numbers you will find the part number in the AGCO parts page online, but it might not be available from AGCO.

Lets see i will dig into the vast warehouse of pictures.

Guess I don't have a picture or part number for the bearing and seals in the pedestal?

I think these are for the wheel to axle bearings and seals

This may not help much? I took mine out and measured the OD. and I.D then called around to bearing mfg for prices and availability.
Regards,
 Chris

With part numbers and companies changing over the years, that's the only way to do it, as far as I'm concerned

The riveted wheels were lighter material (17#) than the welded wheels (21#). Suggesting to me that there were some reliability issues with the riveted wheels.

i will look around tonight when I get home, I might still have the old bearings I took off. I know they were not available from any other bearing distributators around here. Memory is not good

The originals may have been a radial thrust bearing ?? but a regular timken bearing will work fine.

OK
I cleaned out the old grease and put new stuff back in.
I'll do a couple trips around the pasture with the mower and see how it turns.

Thanks to all!

Be sure to inspect the other wheel for cracks as well.
