1. Why do some intake manifolds have "Allis Chalmers" cast into them and others are just smooth??

2. What's the proper rim/tire combination front and rear to keep the tractor level and looking good/tough??

3. Is there a good way to check for jumping out of gear if you don't have a load to put on it?

Question 1, I don't know, would have to look at mine, don't remember if it is on there or not.

number 2, mine has 18.4 by 30 and 9.5L by 15 fronts, think it looks good.

number 3, get going down hill or fast down the road at high throttle and then back off throttle fast, that should work but not always.

2. 18.4X30 rears and 10X16 fronts. The 10X16 fronts make a real tractor out of it. Mike

I have 18.4 X 28" on the rear of my 185 with 10:00 X 16" fronts and it looks pretty good and level and I like the looks of it. Rick

On my 180 I put 16.9 X 34 on rear and 10.00 X 16 on front. The 16.9 X 34 came off of a 6080 Allis, cast wheels and the tires were new. It sits nice and level and moves a lot faster on the road. We put a 250 gallon bulk milk tank on a 3 pt hitch deck that I built for gathering maple sap when we are making maple syrup. I have about 700 lbs. on the front end to keep it down. The big rubber makes it roll over the rough ground in the forest or bush as we call it in Ontario. It makes it look like a real tractor.

I'm pretty sure all the ones with 38" rears from the factory also had the 2" taller front spindles. That throws another monkey wrench in the mix. The one I just bought had 15.5 x 38 rears and 245/75-16 truck tires on the front and sat level. I changed to 18.4 x 28 on the rear and had to change the front spindles to standard for it to sit level with 11L-15's on the front....maybe pointed up just a little yet.
