I have a D12 SII with a L-99 front loader. The loader puts a lot on the front axle (light duty Ag.type) and the right spindle broke during a snow storm a little while ago. I'm working towards ordering the parts to re-build both sides (spindles, spindle bushings, hub, wheel bearings, seals) since everything is worn.
QUESTION: The service manual I have has a section about replacing the hub/wheel bearings, but doesn't say anything about replacing the spindle -- Is there any "tricks" or procedures I need to know to replace the spindle and the spindle bushings?
I've changed king pins in Ford pick-ups in the distant past. and I'm assuming it will be something like that. Is there anything I need to know about disconnecting the steering linkage from the top of the spindle?

loosen tapered bolt on steering arm lifts off the top, spindle then drops out the bottom. I just rebuilt my D12 Series II front end, converted back to a farm tractor.

I run a heavy drum mower, on my D-12III. I have to counterweight the front pretty heavy, consequently, have replaced spindle twice, in 5 years, due to hitting ground hog holes at high speed. The replacement takes about 15 minutes, once the wheel is off... Aftermarket replacement spindle from Sandy Lake was $230, last time I ordered one...

Diy Dave: Did you replace the spindle bushings when you replaced the spindle? I'm wondering if they might be galled in place and be difficult to remove and install the new ones. I'm guessing it is also possible that the bushings are worn through and the tube is worn out-of -round after carrying a loader on the front end for 53 years.
