this is how I want to build the model 72. I am still doing cost estimates for production. Going slow working with Agco. Will keep updates.

Interesting. Not going to put the hitch and auger on the other side like an All-Crop?

If you're going this far to redesign a combine which looks nothing like an All-Crop, why do you need to mess with Agco??

I'd think government regulations will stop any production. Regs will put productions costs very high. Yes I'm a wet blanket but I still wish you the best. Maybe build it in kit form to avoid some of the regs?

it might just fit in a class with the combines and other harvasting equipment they build for experimental plots and specaility crops

Norm's book p346 tells the tongue swings under the header for transport. Why not use that? If the auger came out the right side, the transport width would be cut down even more. Would be great if a pivot point on the axle could keep the machines body level on a hillside. Best of luck to you.

That combine brings back some memories.  Dad had one when I was growing up on the farm.  Excellent threshing unit, but some crops (flax) could be problematic getting around the corner from the head into the threshing part.

Where did you find that pic? I've seen some others of that combine besides the two that are in the AC book?

Cool!
Speaking of which....what's the name of the giant farm museum in NE? Granddad was saying it is all indoors and was so big that in 4 days he didn't get to see everything.

Chris,
I love listening to a dreamer and a doer, you seem like both. Your project seems interesting and very doable. Do you have to involve AGCO? Have you tested the market for demand and have you received any feedback and interest? I personally think there is demand for your idea due to the  amount of small farmers. I wish you the best and hope you keep us informed on the progress.

I am not going to involve Agco at this time. Going to build one or two and see if they sell first. After I build them I'll have a better idea of cost.

Make sure if you start to build them for production, keep the very first prototype for yourself! If these things catch on like the All-Crops did, a prototype would be worth a lot someday!

In another life, I was involved with engineering and building custom material handling machinery.  One of the things I quickly learned (that my predecessor hadn't learned) was that if you built 2 of something at one time, the 2nd one cost half of the first one.

I couldn't pencil out making new pull-types, but Chris if you can do it, more power to ya! One thing I would hope you could figure out is how to keep the wheel base under 96" and overall width under 102" when in transport mode.

Just a thought, but you might think about adding a quick tach style of head.
