Charlie, I do NOT need a D-272. I'm strictly a West Allis guy. If it didn't get built there, I'm not interested. British A-C's will have gotten cheaper since I've always thought they should be bought and sold by the pound.

Those are some nice looking tractors. I just have two a d17 serries 1 and a d15 that is I guess serries 1.5 I think it is mostly serries 2 now built out of two tractors. Just wanted to say thanks for the photos nice to see them and nice to see other tractors that clearly work not just collection tractors. I know I get alot of comments about how nice it is to see the old tractors still out working the fields.

My early on mission in the Allis collecting hobby, was to have one of each of the D series (just one of each number, not each variation). Got most, but no D10 or D12, but 3 17's. Seems I deviated slightly (a lot) from the original mission, and have more non D series tractors than I do D series. I still love them D series, though. Sorry, have no pictures right now. Darrel

A complete D series would involve a lot of tractors. You have diesel, gas, propane. Wide front narrow front and single front. Series 1/2/3 of various tractors. High crops. But if you just mean a 10/12/14/15/17/19/21. I am sure there are a lot of people that have that. I had that at one time, and decided as they are getting less and less valuable by the day, as the tractor collectors get older. It was time for them to go. IG

Tractors are like cars, the collectible ones keep getting newer and newer . People like what they had as a kid, and kids today, 30ish didn't grow up on the D series. It's just part of life. What would most people that collect today want a model t or a 69 camero ?

Well I would rather have the model T or a 3 door coupe from the 30s then the 69. As to the tractors I think it does have alot to do with what you grew up with. But if I am actually planning on running it which I am right now I want something with live power. I would love to have something like a B or a farmall Cub low boy with a mower deck for the lawns here I have alot of lawns. Maybe you are right about the younger guys but alot of the guys my age late 30s early 40s like the old stuff. The steal wheeled war tractors are a big hit for restoration. But sadly most of my friends don't have the time or the money. So probably as we retire the old tractors will find a new collector group.

I don't get your comment. You pointed out that the 69 was worth 40 and the T was only worth 15 and that I should want the higher value car. I pointed out that I thought we where talking what project car you would rather have to fix. For me I would much rather do an old project coupe from the 30s then anything out of the 60s or 70s. I have always liked the old cars frome the 30s and the look of the fenders back then. So I guess my only comment is if I am going to spend my time and money on the project my choice would not be the 69.

IG is spot on on this. We all like something we can relate to or remember from our past. I started farming in 83 with an XT gasser then traded it for a 200 that was eventually traded for an 8070 . I now own a 190 gasser and a 200 again. Looks like IG could fix me up on the 8070. But I will have to wait for 7 dollar corn again on that one. LOL

John, you mean I have to choose ONLY one? I'd take the Model T. Better
gas mileage and a LOT easier to work on. I had a lot of 50's and 60s
rods and I would take the 30s ANYTIME!
If we are talking Allis, I'd take ANY of em!! If you're giving em away!!
