So my B is pretty much made of spare parts we had lying around the farm from many different machines. It is a 1944 rear end so it has the starter opening in the torque tube but the only flywheel I had was from a hand start combine power unit so it doesn't have a ring gear and I also don't have a starter for it so I have always just hand started it. However I recently found a loader for it and I would like to do a live crankshaft pump for the hydraulics and therefore thought about finally make it electric start. Now the actual question: Are the ring gears that you can buy for a B compatible with a hand start flywheel (can I just put a press fit ring gear on the combine flywheel)? Or, do I need to get a different flywheel that was designed for a ring gear from the start? |

None of the flywheels that I have are. that does not mean that no crank start tractors of later years were not. I do not know how far away from me your are but I have a stack of flywheels in the shed that have bad ring gears on them. I am just South of the Michigan line at the Indiana line. I could meet at the Turn Pike mid toll at Ohio 49. I don't sell parts but will take anything in trade that you think would be worth what a used flywheel would be worth. Don't be shy, I said (anything) I received a quart of home made pickles one time for a part. Another time I received a can of smoked salmon. 
All trades leave me with a fun memory story.

I don't know about the BE engine, but the early hand start W engines had a different flywheel that wasn't turned to accept the ring gear.

I would not want a loader on a B. There is no reinforcement from the front end support to the torque tube at the rear engine mount like on a D14/15. I had one that broke the lower rear engine mounts.
