I picked up a set of side engine weights this weekend, they are the early -1 style without the bevel.  Pretty rust  and I can't really make out a casting number on either of the weights other than a "1" closer to the bushing side of one of the weights, but the seller parted with them for $60 since they were just taking up space in his shed, so I'd say it a good deal.

I just have to drill the holes in the front plate so I can actually mount them, the holes should be tapped for a 5/8 bolt?  I think I saw someone post where I should center the holes. Then make some bushings as well.

Also, just for my own curiosity, when looking at the weights, they are cut on an angle for the side that faces the tractor, does anyone know the reason for this?  Just wondering out of general interest.

Thanks,

Brad

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

The weights without the bevel are the early RARE ones. Pre 1940
I see where you have to drill the front plate for the bushing and bolt. This hole is maybe, kinda, sorta, real critical. PM me a address and I can send you a template of exactly where to drill the holes. They are not threaded.
Most 38 and some 39 Bs did not have holes in the plate because up until the engine side weights became available all there was were the arched axle weights
