Good morning,

Dads 5050 1200 hours total time new lift pump 50 hours ago

It dumped a bunch of fuel into the sump.
We figured it was the injector pump and had it rebuilt.

Pump is timed and injectors were cleaned but it runs like dog doo

Won't idle or rev above 1600 and is smoky

It does not push any fuel back through the return from the injectors.

Seemed to take a little too long to get running at first

Would not fire without a shot of either

I have new coopers in the injectors and think they are the right height?
The old ones "may have" come out with the injectors (just not sure).

There was still a cooper looking ring in the block, which I could NOT remove. I am running "new" on top of whatever was in the block. This seems to put it at the right height as without the new washers, it won't clear grease smudge from the outer rubber seat, but with the new washers it clears grease from the rubber and the cooper.

1) Bad pump rebuild?

2) Injector height?

3) Something else?

4) Something worse?

thanks,

John

whoops, I got the grease smudge wrong, without the new washers, it clears the rubber dust cover but not the injector seat, with the new washers it clears both.

Also, when I crack the injector lines to bleed while running, which I have done a bunch, all cylinders behave the same.

I don't know much, but I do know how to bleed a system, there ain't no air in there.

more details if I think of them!

Sounds to me like you need a new lift pump. They will pump fuel into the crankcase ( quite common). Also the engine will not run right with 2 sealing washers on the injectors. You have to get the old ones out before installing new.

sounds like fuel restriction. IF it doesn't put out lots of white smoke while cranking, either the injections are set too high or the head is worn in the pump. It only takes one bit of trash to score a head. While running if it sounds bad, push in the shut off button on the stop rod to retard the timeing, if it sounds worse - the timing is slow - if it sounds better , it is too high. By not having a return it sound like a fuel restriction. By pass the system and rig a line right into the pump and draw out of a clean container to check the tractors fuel system. These are notorious for plugging at the shut off.
ARE YOU USING NAPA FILTERS? NAPA HAS 2 #'S ONE DOES NOT HAVE HOLES IN THE TOP - THEY WILL NOT WORK. (unless it is a last resort of really BAD fuel - NEVER change the filter in front of the radiator - well ever ten years of so maybe..
