Parts books use the same part number for the B and the C Torque Tubes. Two of them actually. 210944 prior to 1951 and 224972 1951 and after. The answer is, Yes they will interchange The early B torque tube without provision for a electric starter is another story. |

| Thanks, Ken. I have a 1938 B. The previous owner broke the torque tube on the right front and welded it up. It's working but has obvious welds. There's an auction tomorrow 40 miles away. They have 2 parts C's. Both have electric start. My B has no starter. Will that make a difference? |

I don't know for certain, but I will bet you will need the flywheel from the one with an electric starter so it will work. Unless you want to keep hand cranking it every time. Robert |

A C torque tube will interchange with a early B torque tube if you want to convert your handcrank to electric start. The C starter flywheel and clutch & pressure plate can also be used to update. The 38 B foot rest will fit the C torque tube too. If you lived closer I have all the parts to convert a Handcranker to electric start. Except. You will need to build a custom bracket to mount a genny on a Early BE engine. Don't forget a different tool box and a battery and battery box. You may get all you need off one of those C parts tractors. Scrap prices today make a C for parts worth less than $100. |

Using a torque tube from a C to a B works fine. When using a B torque tube on a C, it will not have the holes tapped for the steering box support bracket. Just useless information added to this question.

| Looked at the B's torque tube then went to the auction and looked at the C's torque tubes. Found just what you said. Want to keep the B original so didn't buy any parts tractors. |

Good for you Dan. By updating a handcrank 38B to electric start it would no longer be a ALL 38B It is tempting to modernize but if a historical accurate restoration is the goal, I congratulate you for your decision to keep your B as authentically accurate as possible. Ken in Texas If you lived closer to Henderson Texas I would make you a gift of a authentic very nice 38B torque tube. And throw in a pair of wide 1938 B seat back supports if your 38 B needs them too. |
