Mind blank. thick side of the rod away from or toward the main bearings?

I will post a picture to help. However in assembly of any engine as you place the pistons in the cylinders you need to watch how the rod goes into the crankshaft journals. The rod needs to be centered in the piston on the wrist pin. As the rod gets close to the journal centered in the piston it needs to be centered on the journal. If this is done the problem is solved. I call it engine assembly details. The only way to get it wrong is to stick a piston in paying no attention as to how every thing lines up and drive them home.

The service manual states "The connecting rod is offset and must be installed with the long side of offset turned away from the nearest main bearing" So to answer your question, thick side away from the nearest main bearing.

| Manual states that 1 and 3 have the long side of the bearing toward the flywheel, 2 and 4 with the long side toward the front of the engine. Dick's picture shows this well. The front of his engine is to the right in that pic. |
