Hey guys I got my B on jack stands with the wheels off. If I try to turn the hubs by hand they are pretty tough to turn. Seems too hard but I don't know.
Yes it's in neutral.
Is this normal?

I guess I should add this.
I had the 4 nuts off of one of the final drives and it was slid almost all the way off the studs when the tractor fell off the jack stands. It fell about 1 foot with the hubs landing on the cement floor.
So I'm worried the shaft may have bent. If that's possible.
But I'm just not sure how smooth they are supposed to spin.
Thanks

YOU trying to spin them is prolly what knocked it off the stands! DON'T DO THAT! doubt very much they are bent! whew! i'm sure they'll turn plenty hard by hand!

oh....and throw away those jack stand killers....use big blocks of wood that cover some area! those stands do NOT have a wide enough base on them to be safe!

With the wheels and centers off its quite/very hard to turn the works by hand grabbing the lung nuts. I stuck a dowel in there to turn to align them to put the wheel back on.
2nd on using cribbing instead of jack stands.
I guess finish removing the final drive, turn hub, and watch the shaft to see if it's bent.

The wheel centers are on there.

They can be hard to turn by hand. I doubt you hurt anything. I usually use a tire iron to spin the hub.

They don't turn all that easy with the tires on. Where did you have the jack stands? I use them under the drawbar.

I was actually repositioning the jack stands when it happened. So it was technically just on the Jack. The stands are now under the foot rest bar.

Unless you have had the foot rest bar out and know it is solid don't trust it. Sometimes rust will weaken then. Use cribbing if at all possible.

Yikes! Just glad you were not hurt when the tractor fell! Someone should have the parts you need to get it back in good working order. Regards, Chris

I think the part number of the shaft you need is 213487 With the 14 tooth pinion. I have several B final drives lying around. I don't know if I get a shaft out of one, will it get to you in time for Halloween

Go onto the Yesterdays Tractor site, classified photo ads under Allis Chalmers; Paul in Wentzville, MO usually has plenty of B, C and CA parts as he parts them all out and plenty of rear finals should be listed.

I use Jack stands to hold my Tractors up, but like Dick L. I set em' up under the draw bar, or if there's room on the rear end housing without any interference, I'll prop em' there. Just depends what area of the Tractor I'm working on and what type of work I'm doing on it. BTW, the stands I use are 5 ton and 10 ton stands. You can just about pick em' up! They are heavy dudes, and set up on a Concrete floor keeps things nice n' stable. I wouldn't trust that foot rest bar either. They rust from the inside out and you can't tell what kinda shape they're in. Steve@B&B
