Hi All,
I'm restoring a WD45 and I'm going to remove the right frame rail to try to fix the hand clutch slop. Is there anything I should be aware of or be cautious off before I remove it? Thanks, Brad

As long as the Left side is in tact and tight, you really shouldn't have a problem taking it off without any other consideration. To be sure, throw a jack under the bell housing, to add just a little support, don't take up any significant weight on the jack.

Drain the tranny oil as the oil will come out where the belt pulley was.

Ok thank you both for the quick response. I'm restoring a WD45 and I bought two 7/8" ID and 1" OD diameter bushings to hopefully take away the slop in the hand clutch. Is there anything else I should look at or do while I have the rail off?

Maybe a new seal for the belt pulley. It's a lot easier to change with the frame rail off. Also any issues with the hydraulic pump could be addressed easier. Maybe remove it and clean the sludge out of the sump.

I'm with Charlie on the idea of taking the pump off to clean the oil housing, when I did mine there was black sludge on the bottom. Also the best way to clean everything and maybe paint the inside of the frame rail.

Wow cool I grew up in Chisholm actually. I heard there was a guy by Deer River that has a lot of Allis parts?
Ok thanks Mack.

hi, After doing two WD's recently I would suggest rebuilding (new seals and gaskets) in the hydraulic pump. Also if your going to get the castings cleaned up, I would suggest supporting the tractor (engine and transmission) and pulling both rails. It will make the clean up easier. Yes the seal for pulley too. Regards, Chris

You should be aware that, once you remove one side and clean it all out to correct problems, you'll feel obligated to scrub and paint it prior to reassembly, and then feel the need to repeat on the other side. This leads to pulling the transmission, replacing the hand-clutch and that one noisy gear, new rear end seals, an engine rebuild, new tires, gaskets, belts, hoses, decals...
Removing that one frame rail, consequently, becomes very, very expensive...
