It has become quite obvious that the mysterious "shock shoe" has nothing to do with the actual act of "plowing" after all. I was under the impression that it was there in case the plow actually hit a buried object such as a boulder or tree root, to ease the impact or some how absorb it. Gerald was 50% right, "placed on weakest bottom". Tracy was 50% right, "keep from breaking the points if plow drops or falls quickly on a hard surface". But , IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ACTUALLY PLOWING, as the "shock shoe" only works from the 9 0'clock to 6 O'clock position. Not at the 3 O'clock position needed for an impact. A/C engineers offered this protection in the event the plow was lowered or "DROPPED" onto a concrete or other hard surface. I believe Allis should have just stated this fact in their assembly instructions.
