Gerald and I have been musing this over and can not come up with a logical reason. We are talking about 3 and 4 bottom snap coupler plows since we own both. The location also varied from the 1st beam to the 3rd or 4th beam depending if the plow was "semi" or "fully" mounted. The operator's manual only noted which beam to install. # 64 4 bottom 14" (trail wheel) shoe is on the 1st beam. # 63 3 bottom 14" shoe is on the 3rd beam. # 60 series 4 bottom 10" or 12" shoe is on the 1st beam. # 60 series 4 bottom mounted 10" or 12" shoe is on the 4th beam. Reverse lift is the only function that I can think of, and the pad is too small to aid in a furrow . Your thoughts gentlemen.  Auntwayne and AuntGerald

It is to keep from breaking the points if plow drops or falls quickly on a hard surface or a rock when plowing. HTH Tracy ------------- No greater gift than healthy grandkids! |

| Gerald did make mention that the shoe appeared to be mounted on the end of the plow frame with the weakest support. Those with rear wheel mounts have the shock shoe on the front bottom while those listed as mounted have the shoe on the rear bottom . |
