Subject: Combine header auto height not working

I am looking at a L2 gleaner that has the auto header control. The owner says the header auto height sensors do not work, and he does not know why. I have not a clue about the auto height system, as this would be my 2nd machine. Any ideas on what it might be? I have not seen the machine yet, but will be. Thanks

probably a broke wire, but could be the sensor on the head or the module

Can new sensors or modules be bought?

The module can be rebuilt. I had to track down an open in my L2. It's a pretty simple system

Where is the auto-height switch in the L2-L3? I haven't ever seen one in ours, so it may not have it.

The switch is down in front of the light switches. There were also two types. The older one was a relay down below the console. It will only have an off and on and you can hear it click with the key on and engine off when you hit the header down button. The newer style started at serial #24401 and has an actual module and will have a 3 position switch. It is the same as L3s. I have a wiring diagram for both

Creston- I dont know if they are only in Corn/Soybean specials or not, but they are a lot more common on them I know. Seems to me like a lot of them sold new in wheat country came without them (probably an option nobody thought they needed!)

Does the old auto height work pretty well? Have on our L but didn't fix that part up yet.

I use it and I like it. There are only 6 wires. Worst case run trailer wire and put a truck plug on the header.

trouble shooting is EZ, first get the op man and look at the diagram. Power goes thru 3 position switch to the switches on the head then back thru the 2 red wires to lower or the blue to raise. The module has to be powered thru the red and orange wire. Check out and post back. Also---- there are 2 L2 auto head systems - the old one used a latching relay :-( - and was bolted to the floor - never seen a relay bad, but 99% have harness/ground issues....

A test light is going to be your new best friend. Dirty conventions is very likely. A mouse with bad intensions can mess things up,,, fast as well. I wish I was there. I like fixing things like this.
