Just wondering if I should stick with sisal twine in the 442 that I sm resurecting? Heard the knotters may not behave well if you switch to plastic.   Thanks.

Sisal degrades.

If you have a bale thrower, the plastic twine is often burned when it contacts the belts. Other than that, if the knotters and twine tension are adjusted properly, you should be able to use plastic twine.

Remember that you can't use the small plastic twine made for round balers.

I  am not a twine guy,as I still have a wire baler in the barn.Been helping a cousin who has 2 twine balers, and have been around some others.

Each baler has little things that make them miss more ties, but should be interchangeable so try it.From reading this board and several others there are different sizes of plastic.  Try to find the one that is the closest matches your old twine. On any baler watch for places that have groves cut into rollers or other parts that the twine drags across. I'm sure someone will know more about your baler and have better advice.
