I found a 621 forklift on CL yesterday.  Drove to Denver to check it out (35 miles) seemed ok and the price was right.  Went back today to haul it home.  The owner had bought it from a neighboring business.  Had it running but not well and couldn't lift the forks.  The gas smelled really bad so I hope it will just be a few gallons of gas after draining the old stuff.  Maybe a carb kit too.  I was hoping the hydraulic oil tank was low but that isn't the problem.  Wondering if maybe the pump is above the tank and it has lost it's prime.  If that's not it, I worry the pump or drive system is bad.  Time will tell.  All advise is welcome!

Sorry Mike, at least it's in the Allis family!   I called them yesterday and he said they had had some calls so I went there to look, they had left a few minutes before I arrived at 4:05.  Looked it over and spent an hour+ in traffic getting home.  Called them this morning and said I'd take it.  Had to tow it onto my hook lift flatbed.  Also took the tilt cylinders loose so the tower would lean down more.  Didn't want to discover the low bridge near Mile High Stadium was lower then the tower!
Got it home and unloaded, haven't worked on it yet.

Checked it out today, the fuel in it looked like 2 stroke mix. drained it and put in new gas ran with the choke on only.  Pulled the carb, nothing was tight inside, but it was pretty clean.  Put it back together and it runs great, AND the hydraulics work fine! The thing goes up 21', scary watching it go up.  I think I dun Good!

Probably had something non-combustible in the fuel, and when you pulled it apart, got all that stuff out. Most of the time, it's dihydrogen oxide- poisonous stuff, but surprisingly common in our environment. As lethal as dihydrogen oxide is, one would think that the EPA would be much more active in regulating it, rather than the scant appearance of trace elemental carbon dioxide, but they've effectively swept it under the rug. Dihydrogen Oxide actually appears in greatest quantities of greenhouses, but they dismiss it as being irrelevant to their so-called 'greenhouse effect'.

By the way, motor fuels containing ethanol tend to absorb large quantities of dihydrogen oxide... and it's very corrosive to many metals in carbeurators. Be very careful about getting dihydrogen oxide on your hands- your skin readily absorbs the substance, and it's very difficult to get out, once it's in.

Dave, I may be wrong, but haven't we been drinking dihyrogen oxide all our lives? lol
On the 621, replaced the fuel line (hose) and it worked good for a while but now quits and only barely runs with the choke out.  Pulled the sediment bowl and flushed the tank, nothing large came out.  Has me stumped.  Also discovered it pops out of 4th, may live with that for a while.

It's not unusual... fortunately, as long as one doesn't ingest too much at one time, it's not as lethal...

Have you checked to make sure that the fuel tank is venting properly, and the fuel pump is pumping? What's the chances that there's another fuel line that is soft on the inside, and sucking closed when you try to push fuel through it?

And also... does it have a Zenith 1bbl downdraft carb with a velocity governor? My Hyster has one of those, and it's cranky...

Dave, it's good to know I'm ok in drinking the stuff, was worried I'd have to go on the wagon!
I didn't check the fuel tank venting, a possibility for sure.  It's gravity feed and I replaced the fuel line with a new one.  The old one was a hydrulic line and it seemed to have a lot of black dust in it every time I blew it out.  Decided it didn't like gasoline and was deteriorating inside. The sediment bowl has a tiny bit of stuff in it but not a lot so I think the tank is fairly clean  It's an updraft carb, forget the brand, maybe a Marvel. AC 4 cylinder engine, D15 drive train, what is that, a 160 cu. in.?
The reason I think it had two stroke gas in it was I bought it from a golf card dealer and the guy I dealt with, helpful as he was, didn't seem too knowledgeable.  Told me he thought it need a new carb which he had priced at $650.  Maybe been breathing too many two stroke fumes or something.  lol
