So, after dealing with the John Deere dealer, I've frequently said that it wouldn't bother me if we never bought another Deere product. And, we just bought a Deere 8350 grain drill. So much for that! (I won't use our local dealer, though). Does anybody know the difference between an 8350 and an 8300? From what I see, there are fertilizer boxes on the 8350, and our older 8300 didn't have them. Anything that we need to be aware of? |

And that, folks, is why I refuse to use our dealer. Sadly, we were on a limited budget and the only decent IH 510 I found that had everything we wanted was sold. You have to remember that prices here are nuts. Last week, an average condition MF #43 drill brought $3750. The good news is that the discs look to be almost new, so we hopefully won't need parts for a couple of years. Then, we could probably just sell it for a high amount. It is a Deere after all. They're made of magic stuff, aren't they???  |

Are we having a necktie party? Can I come!?  As I said, not my first choice, and we won't use the local dealer. We'll get our parts shipped up from Casper. Our choices were either this, a $3750 Massey that needed a little work and won't seed enough, or an old John Deere/Van Brunt that should be sitting in the weeds. It's been a few years since we had our 8300. Anything to be aware of... other than Shameless with a rope? |

I don't know anything bouts them drills, but I think I'd be keeping a lookout on the horizon for shameless to be riding in. Better keep a loaded rifle by the door......

We used an 8200 for at least 25 years. Never had any major problems with it. Didn't have fertilizer boxes so it didn't rust. There were some bearings that needed to be replaced in the double disc openers occasionally, but the local dealer took care of that since they are hard to do. I think the 8350 is just a newer model.

8300, grain only 8350. grain, fertilizer Then of course there are different lengths and whether or not there is a grass seed attachment |

Got it! We had an 8300 and loved it. That was years ago, though. We don't put fertilizer on through the drill, and the box isn't damaged back there, so no big deal. It's a single disc opener, so hopefully the bearings won't act up. Whoever said that dealing with the Deere dealer is like dealing with Satan has apparently been to our dealer! The one on the other side of the state has treated us well, though. |

I have a 8350 single disk drill. I got it for scrap price, not rusted out, fertilizer pans were missing but no biggie as we spin it on anyways. After I got it home, I rebuilt the one grass seed box some one backed into it, and right now I have 4 disk ordered and when I am done with them I will have all the disk replaced. It does a good job i plant my stuff and 2 of my cousins stuff also. You will like it, just keep the slides loosened up on the adjusters and all should be good. ------------- I have a 185 Allis, 6060 Allis, Model K gleaner, SMTA ferg 35, ferg 20 (paps first tractor, Allis B (wife's)John Deere 240 skid loader and a bunch of the usual farm stuff. |
