After thinking over that sweet K2 that sold for 15k with both heads, I wondered if any of you could tell me the original cost back in '79 of this combine, base unit and heads.  Ryan

My Dad bought a new 1976 "F" with 4-38" CH and 13 ft FCB for $26,500.

I only have a 1980 price book but the list price for a 1980 with a 10' head, gas was $28,428.  A 330 3 row head was another $7,111.  Diesel engine was another $2,666.  This is list price, there was a lot of dealing down going on at that time.
Still the one sold recently was about half of new price.

I have asked this question of numerous older dealers.  JohnCO has the most exact numbers I have ever seen.  Most dealers just say, $20-30,000 for base machine plus platform, then figure another $5-7000 for corn head (black A236 or A330).  Most dealers said that it depended on options.  The cab AC, cloth seat, hydraulic unloading auger, chopper, variable speed header, header electric clutch, Corn PLUS..., Corn/soybean Special, and tire sizes.  The platforms could be rigid or flex, variable speed reels, & 10',12',13', 15'.  I have only seen a few K2s outfitted with a 15' flex cutting soybeans.
The 1977s short backs (first year K2) did not have as many options.  It was a square back/dressed up K series.  It had no diesel, no hydraulic unloader, no Corn PLUS..., no grain tank extension, only 8 bolt final drives with lighter drive axle frames, and series I pitman flex platform.
The 1978s long backs began offering most options.  This year offered only a white cab top, 10 bolt final drives with heavier drive axle frames, series II wobble flex platforms, an orange 433T, and one gear shift.  1979s began offering Corn PLUS... black decal cab tops, also with one gear shift. If you did not have a good feel for shifting the single gear lever, you could easily have it stuck in 2nd but have the lever in the 1st-R range.
The 1980 & 81s offered 2 gear shifts and a stiffener on front drive axle for handling 4 row corn heads.  I believe the 433T engines were painted black & had higher compression for easier starting.
