| I've got a D17 series 3 bought at an auction few years ago. I changed the oil and oil filter went from a fram filter to agco filter. Started the tractor up and gauge reads hi oil pressure. Checked the dip stick and it had the right amount of oil in it. Talked to a mechanic where I worked he said probably the oil pump pressure realease valve is stuck. He suggested changing the oil pump. Does anyone know if all the oil pumps for these series of tractors were the same? I'm guessing no cause agco needed to know what series it was for the oil pan gasket. Also has anybody else ever had this problem? I don't think its the gauges cause they were replaced with the duetz allis gauge. Any help or input would be appreciated. |

The high pressure reading on the gauge is normal (in some cases). There were 2 oil pressure gauges made. High pressure and low pressure. If a low pressure gauge gets installed on your tractor, it is going to read very high. The low pressure gauge was used for early models. You do not have any problem in my opinion. Lots of oil pressure is better than too little. | The needle goes way above the word normal wrote on the gauge. But I didn't know there were 2 seperate gauges. Thanks for the info. Makes me feel better. |

| Like so many other posts on here. What was the Fram filter p/n ?? should have been PH-8A.....AGCO filter should be a 70237000 ?? Is your D-17 really a Series 3 ?? does it have an oil bath air cleaner or dry air filter ?? If it really is a Series 3 gas, it always has had this high oil pressure when cold....it's always been like that. |

| That's how my gauge looks so that's a relief to me. Not sure what the fram number was but went to the agco dealer told them what I had they gave me the oil filter I needed. I'm guessing from the serial number which is D17 66267 makes it a 1963 not sure when the break was from series 2 to series 3 occurred. Also an older gentleman that still farms with Allis told me it was a series 3. And the part number you posted about the agco oil filter is the number that's on the filter ive got. | I own D-17 s/n-66260 (very close to yours) and yes it is a series 3 and mine has had high oil pressure since new. Gauge always looks like the picture that DanD posted. Mechanic at AC dealer back in the 70's once told me that if you are buying a new tractor and the dealer had several tractors of the model that you want to start all of them and buy the one with the most oil pressure. |
