Hello every body I'm new at this. I have a 1975 HD4 dozer, the dozer worked great all summer, but when to use it this winter it moved about 100 ft and started to slow down and then stopped no forward and no reverse. The next day it moved about 100ft and started to slow down and stopped moving again. The trans fluid is over full now, could the filter be plugged or is there some other place I should look ? Thanks for any help !

Could have a chunk of ice in it, somewhere, might be time for a fluid change...

check fluid with engine running ,

is there a slow down of engine from neutral to in gauged movement of control /

Could be filter or low fluid or failure of clutch pack .

need to do pressure test if

Thanks, I will have to wait till it gets warm out, temp is around 25 degrees

Coke, there is no slow down of motor in gear , its like it is neutral .The fluid in the torque converter does not change on the dip stick . The fluid level on the dip stick just stays on the mark that says after 6 hour of running, this is with motor running and motor not running. The temp here has been in the 40s to 50s for four days now, if there was any ice I would think it should be melted.

Time to find the manual and start pressure checks - either torque converter is not working or clutch pack isn't .

The clutch pack inspection is easy. You have to remove several things.... the seat and the cover plates..... but you can start the machine and observe what's going on. This will narrow your search for the issue. Good Luck.

look on the front left of main frame up front - heavy iron just below the grill guard (nose piece) of machine .

I have an hd4 dozer and loader and both of the serial #s are located on the flat spot of the torque housing where it bolts to the back of engine on the oil filter side. i never could find anything at the front grill. just saying that is where mine were and my two units are 1965 and 66 years.

RPeeps - Consider jacking up the machine - block safely to support the dead load. Pull covers from final so as to observe the operation of the clutch pack.

May need a second person to engage and disengage the steer clutch while one observes.

In close, be careful and work safely...
