Does anyone know of a source for either a Nelson or Walker muffler for a CA? Mine currently has a Stanley on it but I'd like to find the real deal.
Thanks, Allen

I emailed them recently and got this back, haven't followed up on it yet to see what the prices are.
HI Nick,
We do still manufacture 04566T. We have 1 pc in stock right now, otherwise it's a 30 day lead time.
You may contact one of our distributers for pricing and to place an order.

Seem to remember from the last discussion that someone ordered one from Cummins for a D17 not long ago and it was a Nelson box with a Stanley muffler in it. You might have to find a NOS one for the real deal anymore.

Walker is the company that now outsources from Stanley (BTDT). The Nelson mufflers are still the real deal. I have part numbers listed on my website:

Several on here have ordered from SimplyFilter.com. Some of the forum vendors may be Nelson distributors also (not sure). The last time I checked with Nelson on the 04566T, there was a 30-45 day lead time as mentioned above.

yea, Brian, I found out about the walker/Stanley thing a couple years ago. I ordered a walker for a 44 MH with the walker number and in the box was a Stanley, I took it back an told the parts guy I'm not paying a walker price for a crappy stanley

There's been so much talk about how nice the Nelson sounds that I decided I had to treat the CA to one. Talked to the local Cummins dealer and a week later, and $214(ouch) lighter, it showed up. Went through the walker/stanley thing too, haven't bought anything Walker after realizing they were pulling that, used to think they had great products. Anyway, not sure it sounds $200 better but definitely has a better sound and seems well made. Fits around the manifold real nice to keep the rain out, it's 5-6" longer than the old one.

Thanks for bumping this back up. A few weeks ago I was doing a search for Walker mufflers and there was one listed on Amazon.
It was originally priced at $101.00 or so but was marked down to 53 bucks. I figured it would be a Stanley but I took a chance and ordered it.
It was in a dusty NOS looking box marked Made in the USA and does not say Stanley on it anywhere. It's different than the Stanley on my CA, heavier etc. and it has the rain shield on the bottom.
The box has a sticker on it that says it came from Parts Plus in Hopkins MN.
I don't know if I got lucky and got a real Walker for sure (never seen one before) but this one is MUCH better built than the chintzy Stanley that is on it now. I'm going to swap it out and see if the sound is different.

Good find Allen, did you ever try out that Walker to see what it sounds like?

I have the new Nelson mufflers for the WD/WD45 and early D17's for 175.00 and the ride. That does beat the dealer price quite a bit. Rick

Back when my 45 did all the heavy lifting,I cut the hood out and fitted a 17ser4 on it.(had welded pipe in busted manifold). It was much easier on the ears.WHAT DID YOU SAY? Should have put a brace on it.Eventually vibration broke the bottom out.

I had contacted Walker also as we have a plant locally. The lady rep. told me they source outside vendors (Like Stanley) for low volume products. She assured me they are the same quality.

Obviously, the lady rep. would say that, but probably doesn't have a clue to the difference in quality between Walker, Nelson or Stanley. And...Stanley has a LOT of their mufflers made overseas! That's one of the reasons that the "so called" paint burns off so fast. I had a lot of those Stanley mufflers where the paint was chipping right off easily during shipment to me, so I don't mess with them any more. Rick
