Okie dokie,
First time experience with a D17 belt pulley minus the pulley wheel.
I didn't see any extra knobs right off that would engage the belt pulley, where would it be?
Or, is there a lever somewhere that I overlooked?
Ours didn't have one that I grew up on, so I'm asking about it and eager to utilize it if I can.
Btw, I've been given permission to use the tractor anytime I need it since I grew up on one and helped my friend find it and he's real happy with it.
I've got a front end loader to adapt to fit for it, so that's coming up asap.
Thanks. Jim

Sit on tractor, look at the Tach. Below and right there is a knob lever that you pull out to engage. If it's not there, then you need it.

Well, you sorta need the rod for the knob to attach to if it is also missing.  The rod attaches to a flat leaver under the gas tank.

The rod attaches to this;

Hope this helps...

PS Guys, is this in the 'ON' position?  Even though there isn't one.  Will this hurt the gears or anything?  TAT

Thanks Charlie!

I did see a threaded rod end & no knob as I looked to see the tach, but no tach! Just a blank plate where the hole is for one.

It was getting dark quick Saturday night and we didn't waste any time looking it over past the essentials.
Just ran and drove it to check the tranny and PD and hear the engine snort a little when I stepped on the brakes.  Very nice!
Might have to replace the brakes if they don't adjust up tighter.
Everything else looked normal for a 57 year old tractor that started life as an LP and was converted to gas.
The seller did say that when he overhauled it, he went to .060 oversize.

Unloaded it by headlights and parked to work on the next day.

Any idea if the HP went up or down by the conversion and bored over a little?

TJ - I'd guess that it'd be on in that position as my rod was pushed in and the arbor spun freely on mine. I don't think that it'd be hurt if it was on and the oil levels are full. HTH.

You pull the rod out to turn the belt pulley on.  You seem to have a lot of questions about this tractor.  I would recommend buying an operator's manual - It would help answer a lot of the questions that you have.

I understood that as soon as Charlie pointed it out.
I'm only asking the quick questions that I wasn't familiar with and we didn't get a book with it on Saturday when we were running out of daylight to look it over closer.
I'm sure that I would have figured it out pdq when I got back to the tractor where it's parked.
