I had received a call tonight, asking about a reversed WD with a hydraulic bucket and loader. The gentleman is asking..."If Allis-Chalmers ever made such a unit or is this something which someone has modified." He was told A-C made only 16 of them...... Please respond... |

I would say Allis never made them. From 1948-1950 Tractomotive was building reverse loaders on B and WF chassis so I can't believe Allis would have been doing it on their own also. | I found it, The RL 451 reverse loader was built on a D-15 tractor it had .75 and 1.0 yard buckets available. Unusual third cylinder could tilt the bucket upward to fill it, and 2 conventional cylinders dumped it. Just a photo and caption, on page 263, of swinford's constructon book, in the edition that I have. (It's in the chapter on Henry equipment) |

My money is on home made if it's a WD chassis. Probably a fuel tank back there, looks like a filler neck above the WD decal where the radiator cap would be. The actual radiator cap is above the ER in "CHALMERS". I'll bet there's a hydraulic reservoir and crank driven pump hiding in there too for the loader.

The fuel tank, battery, hydraulic pump, reservoir, and weights. That's an extension (note position of radiator and steer tires). They moved it all to that end, to make room for the seating position to be moved ahead of the transmission gearshift lever. Actually a clever setup... they probably flipped the ring gear, reversed the linkages of the brakes and clutch pedal, and used a hydraulic valve on the steering wheel, and hydraulic motor on the pedestal. I like it!  ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |
