Subject: Question on some C tractors
Date Posted: 03 Feb 2015 at 9:52am
I'm simply thinking out loud here, out of sheer boredom....Although not my shot of whiskey, -I have first chance at buying 2 complete C tractors...and about 2/3 of another for 1200 cash. Both complete tractors run.. one of them has a Woods belly mower...(worthless around here at auction) They are 20 minutes from home..The C without a mower is tractor #47 and dual fuel, hand brakes, got a nice data plate on the manifold..kinda neat. If you were in this position...would you pull the trigger?? that's all i'm asking...just seeing the consensus!!
Again, not looking to get smarted off to, or sarcastically replied to..just seeing a yea or nay answer to combat a little boredom at work..

Well if you have the 'spare change', sure, why not? I've paid more for 2 Bs with a loader and cultivator NOT running(though all there).
You 'should' be able to recoup most of the coins by reselling one of them....int he springtime.

Jared, I know what you mean about some of the jokesters here.

As for the tractors, if by #47 you are referring to the serial number and like Jay I had the extra cash, I'd go for it.

Good luck!

sounds about right, 500 per  C and 200 for a parts tractor.  The mower is just a bonus.  If I were in the market and had the $$$$ I wouldn't hesitate.

In our area, you would be lucky to find one C in running order for $1200. I would buy them in a minute.

Narrow or wide front? I just saw my first WFE C last week. Most in our area are NFE.

I agree with Jay and others,    and   S/N 47 is earlier than most of us have seen, that would be the one I'd keep for sure.   If you could sell the other one with the mower on it for 1k or even less you could end up with an early s/n tractor for cheep money.    Mark

If you have the cash, why not. Even if you don't buy them could you check the serial # on the engine of #47. It should be a CE motor with the serial # on the back of the block above the torque tube.

Sure, I don't have a "C". I would keep the early one, sell the other, and put the last one behind the barn for parts that I may need later.

Hubert, I did get the Kerosene B from Joe's I appreciate both of your alls help with that. She isn't too far from a paint job. Hoping to compete my collection of kerosene engines before the GOTO in Booneville, MO next year. I have the Kerosene C, B, power unit, and currently working on the Kerosene CA sfw. I'm a sucker for the kerosene. Oh and I have a Kerosene WD45 in numeric order of one in Pennsylvania. Both block and tractor are consecutive... Might have a kerosene D-17 in my sights too.

ME TOO, if they were around here! The going price for a C around here is a grand and up, depending on condition.

Location, Location, Location!
WF had a tractor that I really wanted, but being just short of Canada doesn't help much in getting things moved around. Being in Florida has the same drawback. There are plenty of good deals out there, but when you figure in what it costs to transport 3 tractors 1000 miles, each way...it has to be something pretty special in order to justify the cost of going after them, or the added cost of shipping! Been there, done that!
Most of my tractors came from areas further than I like to think about, put a bunch of miles on my p/u and trailer. Only 3 have come from Florida, and one from North Ga.
Hauling three at a time also isn't something for a 1/2 ton pickup, so you have to consider adding that cost into it as well.

20 minutes from home they would be here already. No haggeling just pay and load. A running c with a woods mower should sell for more tha that.  I f the woods is complete sell it as a unit, once one part is gone its worth scrap. new parts are astronimacly expensive.

That's why I asked about the deck if the other guy wants the mounts.  Our Woods mower has spent to much time in the actual woods and is a bit tweaked.

If you have the money, and IF, one of them has the factory tail light, then yes.

Yeah, factory taillights are sometimes hard to find. I bought a C and a half from Tim and was pleasantly surprised to see an intact one on it.

If I had the extra $$ to spend I would snap them up. I would expect to give near the $1200 for a good running C with the mower on it. Everything else is bonus material.
