I go into my local JD dealer today to get a couple parts for a mower and they got a great big poster hanging on the wall advertising  a big corperate  JD antique tractor deal to be held at the bleed green holy temple. Guess what they are going to call it? THE GATHERING OF THE GREEN.

What does a person have to know to work in JD promotion and advertising? How to operate a freaking copying machine????
Coming from the company that invented nothing but copying I guess it should not supprize me that they cant even come up with an original name for their antique tractor show should it?
I aint got a stick I the fire but If I had paid a certain somebody for the magazine and the rights for the shows I would be contacting a lawyer about now.

In 20 years the bleed greens will claim they invented the name to boot.

I'm done, and off to the shop to cool off,,,

I did a quick Google; looks like the green gatherings started at least back in 2004 if not earlier. It's said to be a biannual event and the earliest I see was held in 2004.

Yep, Butch and I posted pictures of when they took a bus tour to our new barn. They are not my pictures, but I was asked to add them to our tractor club site.

There are other colored tractors pictured and several that show the interior and exterior of our New Barn.
I've been wondering when The IH people will claim they invented the tractor squaredance. Maybe they won't. Just the difference in the kid of people involved.

CTucker   I don't know who invented the tractor square dance, but I remember seeing it first at the Indiana State Fair, probably when they introduced the fast hitch. It was very well done and the crowd really appreciated the show. I would think probably mid 50's. I had never heard of one before that time!

Here ya go Dipstick.
"The most unusual of all the sales promotions was one brain child of C. C. Gross, manager of the Columbus office. Four girls and four boys were trained to drive 8 model B tractors to perform a full square dance routine complete with music and caller, for the Ohio State Fair in 1939."

Here is the article this came from.

I didn't even know that IH did the square dance like Allis. In today's world of asinine laws and intellectual property rights and patents and copyrights that never seem to expire anymore....what was I going to say...oh ya, stealing an idea like that wouldn't fly today.

They have one at the PA farm show every year. I think its an actual tractor square dance club that does it.

I emailed the addy on the Gathering of the Green website and asked what year the first GOTG took place. Here is what I received back....

Brad:

The Gathering is an every-other-year convention-style conference dedicated to John Deere two-cylinder and New Generation enthusiasts.  The 2010 event was composed of 50 workshops, 74 vendors, an opening night reception, evening speakers, trips and tours and an ending banquet.

Over 2200 people from 37 states, Canada, Australia and The Netherlands attended this year's conference.

Brad, JD must have learned how to answer a question from Obama, dont answer the one that is asked, answer the one you wish they asked.  You were nicer than me ( I dont have to worry about being throwed out of the club, LOL)  Can you imagine being in the mist of thousands of 2 cyl JD snobs,,,wow, guess life is good here eh?
