Kind of a lame question, but I don't have an operators manual to look it up in, so here goes: How long should I be holding the manifold heater on before trying to start my one-ninety-XT diesel? I know the temp has a lot to do with it, but is there a point where holding it on too long is no longer doing any good, and is there a minimum lenghth of time, where prior to that does no good either. I've been having pretty good luck going about 30 to 45 seconds. Is this in the ballpark? Thanks, Darrel

I dont think theres a set time, I hold the one on the 200 for anywhere from 10 to about 30 seconds depending on temp. One thing to remember is if you are using the manifold heater is DO NOT use ether. Use one or the other but not both. The heater can ignite the ether and litteraly blow the manifold off the engine.

As a kid I was always amazed that our 190 came with both either button and heater. Pops always warned me about using one or the other- not both and I couldn't figure why they would build something like that in the first place! lol It really didn't matter for long; the either cartridge never got replaced when it went empty anyway.

No correct answer other than however much is needed. If 60sec don't do it you got other issues.Keep heating while cranking and even after it lites to help in getting all cylinders in.
