Just wondering - on the 42" mower deck from my BigTen, there are a series of square holes along the leading edge (and others!).

The ones near the opening, ok, probably had some kind of deflector chute on it.
The leading edge ones - was there a rubber flap or something there?
Maybe something that wrapped all the way around?

Anyone have one I could get dimensions off of?

I can see two things now that I don't have in there....

#8, and #5 (have #6). Guess it's time to whip out the posterboard and make some templates.

But...  along the front lower edge...  I can see (4?) square holes where some (5/16"?) stove bolts went through.  Can't see anything in the drawings.  It wasn't something that stopped stuff from being kicked forwards?

Thats the parts diagram for a B-1 mower deck, not for a leaf mulcher. Instead of being constructed from a solid shell it was made of ten or more panels that bolted together.
Your deck probably never had the mulcher. It was an option that most people never bought. All the decks were stamped with those holes. Not a big deal.

If you go to the free manuals site that John listed and plug in either 990501 or 990284 I think it should give you a manual for the deck and the leaf mulcher kit. There have been probably four or five variations of 42" decks on the B-Series. Most all of them interchange but some have different bails, some have foot pegs, some do not (early models) earlier models had a stationary idler pulley that was adjusted by loosening a nut and sliding it. Later decks had a spring loaded arm, etc.

Ok - I won't bother making those then - thought maybe it was part of the grass deflector or something.  But I see from the other fellows deck rebuild that they're not on his either.

That's good anyhow - I'm back to work tomorrow.  :)

Thanks for the info!

Thought I should add this pic (from the 1964 dealer brochure):

So from this, it looks like I'm missing the (guard? reinforcement?) shown in the lower image on the right side.
