    Posted: 17 Mar 2023 at 10:54am
All,

BLUF:  What color were the 3500 series AC engines that were put into "City & Country Diesel" trucks.

I have some literature from the "Big Al" Truck Diesels to 450HP brochure and it shows 2 versions of the 3500 series engines as part of the Big Al group.  They also had 3 versions of the 21000 and 4 versions of the 25000.

Having never seen a 3500 in a country truck, I am looking for the engine color.  Were they painted purple like it's big brother?

I have the same and other brochures. I'm sure if the engine was installed in a truck, it was purple. I have a 3500 MK II "On Highway Spec" engine but it was never in a truck. Came from a Municipality that had it on a standby water pump. Was painted grey. I now have it a 220 tractor.

Thanks for the reply.  I too have a 3500II.  Mine is in a military generator and it starts and runs.  My plan is to put it into my 48 GMC 2-ton truck.  Plenty of power as the original 228 would make 90 hp on a good day.  LOL.  Anyway, the truck is officially "red" but looks orange to me and has nice patina.  I will probably paint the engine orange, but was wondering about the color of the smaller "truck diesels".

We sold engines to a company called “Grey Marine” and all of them were painted gray.

The 3500 series truck engines were painted the same color as their big brother.

The yellow and black parts are the intercooler addition. The large waterpump with the left side discharge is required to make the intercooler function properly. This 220 dynos 190 hp with the factory injection pump setting which likely means at least 225 hp at the flywheel.

Now that there is a picture to look at this unit was built at the Harvey Engine plant (factory option plate lower LH of block) and not a Grey Marine build.
The original color was yellow not gray.

ACJack. This unit was sold to a company in Montreal Quebec called MECHRON. I assume they packaged it with the waterpump. I have all the manuals including parts. It is a "On Highway engine". It had a 24V electrical system.
