i can get 6 of these firestone 18.4x34 they are wore out for farming with the guy is getting four new ones so i can get the old ones for free two of them are in snap coupler rims , two of them look like they are cut , just wore that way. to much for a wd ,wc, ?. how much power to pull with them ? bear with guys just scronging parts and gathering info for the budgit build

40 years ago, I ran 18.4 x 38's on a 5500 lbs D-17 with 85 PTO HP at 2,000 RPM. Always ran high side of LOW (direct) gear. You don't say what weight or how much HP you've got. Between a WC or WD and late WD/WD45's, the 45 has the slowest gear ratio in LOW gear. A WD45 diesel chassis is 15% slower yet.

My WD in 3500 got 240 lbs of weights (and battery) on the nose with a 200 lb driver and 15.5 x 38 rubber. With 18.4 x 34;s you'll have balance problems on good tracks I think and need 80+ HP to run low gear. with 20 inch drawbar.

a little update today scored a freebe series 1 d17 gas. bad news cant go get it until 2 feet of snow melts and it has been sitting out for twenty years with a rod hanging out the bottom of the pan. what does it take besides cubic dollars to make 85 hp out a 226 ? i have been trying find out what weight most of the other guys in this group here is so i can put somthing together that has the most enteries, wouldnt be very fun to be the only one in a class

I used 4 1/8" bore M & W pistons (SP-46) from a WC/WD with the 4 1/2" stroke D-17 stock crankshaft yields 240 psi compression 110 octane racing gas minimum. Each piston top was milled off .170" so the pistons didn't hit the cylinder head. Stock head gasket. 175 grind camshaft. D-19 carb with slight main jet drill out. Intake manifold throat opened up as much as possible with a die grinder. All intake valve guides shortened up on the bottom. Ignition timing at probably 20 to no more than 22 degrees BTDC. Gleaner E governor weights. Cannot buy M & W pistons anymore, but new 4 1/8 sleeves are available. I imagine flat top Chevy pistons that fit a .990" piston pin are a dime-a-dozen to work in that size of sleeve. Used M & W SP-46 parts not advised because there will be a ring edge on the sleeve and the piston now goes up higher than that. It was a very nice cheap engine build. Also takes a 170/175 clutch disc 4-button.

thats a lot better than having to go have a stroked crank done . that kind of stuff can come later. cant seem to find a wd45 crank locally, been watching for one and a tall head to build a spare or change on one of our farm tractors. i have a half dozen wd engines, any differance in the wd45 crank and d17 crank

Those cranks and blocks do NOT interchange !! The D-17 (G-226) has 3 inch main bearings. The WD-45 (W-226) has 2 1/2" mains. Stroke is the same, but cranks do not swap without the block.

18.4 x 34 foot print is 265 square inches.........18.4 x 38's are 270 sq in........18.4 x 30's are 260 sq inches.....18.4 x 28's are 250 sq in.

that means i realy cant use them for about any pull , may have a line on some 38 or 36 galixys but no rims thay are wore so sharp they look like they were cut i will see what size they we changed them on aguys tractor a year ago they were on a 4430 jd tomorrow i will go up the road and see what they are
