Bottom 1/3 -1/4 of a 55 gal drum, plastic does work as well as steel and easier to cut handle holes in.

I've had for many years a plastic can about the shape as a 5 gal
army gas can, but one side is pan shaped and drains into it, also has a screw on cap for easy dumping.

To go along with several different common automotive type drain pans I have a couple plastic concrete mixing tubs and a 15 gallon water tub.

Not for drain pans, but related.  Those plastic rabbit/pet cage liner trays work good to throw down under something that is dripping, leaking, or during filter changes.  I have also used the large ones for containments under small engine driven equipment when required on projects.
