Wondering if the factory hrdrolics on a D19 are high pressure like a wd or are lower more modern? Looking at getting one to pull my 4 row jd 7000 series planter. I don't have my jd planter manual at present but seems it requires 2400 psi dual acting remote. Thanks for the help.

I can't answer for a D19 but I thought I would pull my IH grain drill with my D17 one year. The grain drill has hyd lift and markers. A sequence valve operates the markers. Two rounds of that was enough. Slower than death. A 7000 planter has cylinders in the tube that have a cable latch system(make sure you pull it out once in a while and oil it). If the D19 is similar to the D17 it will be slow. Not enough volume.

D-19 is low pressure (2000-2200 psi) and will work, but poorly. GPM flow is pretty low and when you push the foot clutch in, the hydraulics are dead. A front crankshaft driven pump of 10 to 12 GPM using your existing valves would work pretty good.

DR., are the hydraulics different on the '19 VRS the 100 series machines ?? We had no issues with a 7000 on the back of a 180 .

The D-19 and 100 series were the same 2,000 to 2,200 psi.

Thanks
But I don't recall a front pump on the '19, and the 180 still has hydraulics with the foot clutch depressed ?? Edited by FREEDGUY - 25 Jan 2022 at 6:20pm |

Front pumps on a D-19 have been added to actually make a decent "live" hydraulic system. Everything newer and larger than a D-17 series 4 has "live" hydraulics.

High pressure/low volume systems used less fuel. Low pressure/high volume systems use more fuel and require more expensive/larger diameter cylinders to get the work done. How many days of the tractor use year did the hydraulic system even get used ?? On some Deere 2-bangers they even had a hydraulic disconnect to help on fuel use when no hydraulics were needed. By the early 1960's everyone was attempting to "standardize " hydraulic system pressures so a customer could buy with confidence any brand of tractor and it would work with any brand of implement. So, 2,000 PSI was somewhere in-between the AC 3400 psi system and an M Farmall at 800 psi. AC not having standard equipment 2-way hydraulics was a negative, as was the fact that the hydraulic pump required using the hand clutch.

We used to plant with the D19 and 4 row 7000 and it worked good enough for us. The D17 struggled lifting it I think because the hydraulic pump kicked out too easily..... if that was because it was high pressure, I don't know. When Dad used the D17 with the 7000 I was pretty young and he only used it one year I believe and then he rented the neighbor's 175 one year and later he rented a 971 Select-O-Speed Ford from the landlord and then I bought the D19 in 1987 when I graduated high school but we rented the 971 one or two years more after that.

Lonn, or any others "in-the-know", is the "foot print " of the D-19 and a 180 similar (chassis length/turning radius)??
I could not imagine pulling the 4 row narrow 7000 consertill with the '19

I'd guess a D19 is slightly longer than a 180 but I couldn't say for sure. A 180 is pretty handy anyhow and just a better all around tractor IMO. I wish I owned a 180 or 185 but I never hated my D19 and I think it is a comfortable tractor for me. Needs a clutch now.

D-19 wheelbase is 103 inches long while a 180/185 is 99 inches. D-19 overall length is 144 inches while a 180/185 is 158 inches. This is a little confusing, but the 3-point hitch draft arms sticking out causes this number to be more while the D-19 was a snap-coupler chassis.

I pulled a 6 row JD 7000 with my D-17 Series IV for years. Never had any issues with hydraulics or power for that matter.

I had two neighbors that pulled 8-38" 7000 Deere planters with gas D-17 SIV's. Both tractors had dual wheels and one of the planters had dry fertilizer on it. Both operators said high second gear and 3/4 to full throttle.

FREED, It's a Series III Landhandler. It belongs to one of my brothers. I now pull a 6 row White 5100 with that XT. Keeps the tractor limber vs sitting in his shed for years on end. It is a great tractor.

Definitely better to be used that just parked.....too much goes south on a sitting vehicle of any kind.
