Anyone remember the discussion about threading the exhaust manifold for installing a threaded pipe to aid in keeping rain out from running down the muffler? I think it was just a few weeks ago but I can't seem to find it. Thanks, Mike.

Easiest way to find things, is to type Allis Chalmers forum, followed by the subject you are searching, into Google, and search.  that's how I found this one:

I remember something about rain caps not keeping water out of manifold. And suggestions on tapping and a brazing, and a modification with exhaust piping.

The threads help for a while, but eventually let water in! --- easiest way is to braze an upside down funnel above the manifold on the muffler pipe. --- did this on a 806 and a couple other tractors, does work.

That is why water pipes always leak right!

if you thread the pipe into the manifold, and still get some water........... It is coming down the exhaust pipe thru the muffle......... the pipe thread don't leak.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I agree with ac fleet.  Not the easiest thing to do though.
I wonder, has anyone ever tried Gorilla glue to do this?  Can it withstand the high temp?

My preference is to buy the OEM style of muffler which shields that area, then cover the exhaust pipe with a rain cap or can when left outside.

I did the shied over the manifold opening around the internal muffler pipe thing until I picked up my 1 1/4" taper pipe to see what size drill it would take to ream it out for the tap. I found it is cast to the correct diameter. All the Oliver's I grew up using came from the factory with a threaded pipe nipple that the muffler pipe slid over. The pipe nipple is a one time deal for the life time of the tractor with a (proper) rain cap. All my tractors set out year around and some only get started every couple years or longer. It is my insurance policy.

The one I use is a Ford inline under the red belly. I took a 1 1/4" nipple from their stock with me to the mufflers at Rural King and found one that fit and then put the nipple back. I cut and thread my own nipples at the factory.
