Get the Motorcraft FL797A. It's listed there for $179.95. :) That site is funny. When I typed in only C159 it returned four filters. When I typed in Fram C159 it returned a bunch of different filters. Beware that it reads "C159" as a partial number too. The odds are that most are made by Fram, but you never know.

changed oil in my B yesterday. Stuck a wix on it and almost no oil pressure.

I finished an oil change on my B on Tuesday. This particular oil change involved replacing the filter mount gasket, pulling and cleaning out the oil pan (because I never had) and cleaning the pickup screen and a new pan gasket (obviously).

I used one of my stash of Fram C159s I found for $8 over a year ago, and the oil pressure is where it should be.  Mowed the front yard (1+ acre) and got it out to temp- everything worked fine.

Lee, you need the new oil with pressure already in it. Costs a little more but you can see the results. Wink

Jay,

When I ran a cross reference on those filter numbers on the Wix site cross reference, a number of them came up discontinued or totally different filters from the Wix 57011 which matches the Fram C159. The CARQUEST 85101, NAPA 1101, NAPA 1104, Wix 51101 and 51104 are all superseded to the Wix 57011 (NAPA's # 7011). Those were the numbers they changed to pleated paper a "few" years back and found out pleated paper does not replaced the packed media.

I have used Fram, Hastings, and Big A in the past. Currently Wix/Napa or Baldwin.

Jim

I'm surprised to not see a post from Steve at B&B. He used to stock Fram C159 filters because they work on shunt filter AC engines correctly. There have been filters made to fit but without the filling and the low pressure drop in the filter caused low engine oil pressure because the pressure regulator is dependent on a stiff filter to keep the pressure up.

Gerald is correct. We've been a Fram dealer since 1970. We used to keep a minimum of 40 C159's on the shelf at all times. Most of the time there were closer to 60 on the shelf. We used to supply our Western vendors as well as our customer's all over the states that couldn't get Fram. About 6-7 years ago, one of our major Eastern warehouses closed. They fed us everything & anything Fram. After they closed, we started pulling Fram from the other Eastern warehouse. They didn't stock a lot of Fram, and the C159 was considered an AG filter which they didn't stock. Well, once I got them to start stocking that filter for us, the price jumped two fold! We used to sell them for $7. bucks each, or 4 or more for $6. each.  I think before the first warehouse closed, we took that "D" rated filter to a "B" rated filter in about 2 years! LOL!  Well, we were able to get the C159's, but not at a good price so we could pass on the savings. Now we have to sell em' at $12.95 each when we can get em'. Just about 18 months ago, the second warehouse we were getting our Fram from closed. Drat!  Now we're having issues trying to get Fram for our customer's. I have something in the works right now, but it takes forever for these folks to move on a deal. But, I'm working on it........

Wink Just saying, you don't have to look real hard to find people saying Fram is the same as not having a filter...

And these people may know something about '09 Corollas or 2012 F-150s, but they probably know nothing about the bypass oil system on a '48 Allis B or '57 WD45

Perzactly! The bypass system uses the restriction of the wad of cotton in the filter for pressure and can NOT be compared to pleated paper filters of any manufacturer.

their's a little more than cotton in there...

I use AGCO p/n 70240912 on our WD because it is the right filter for the tractor.

Who makes the most off-brand filters? Fram, of course. A/C filters are considered off-brand. I wouldn't use a Fram in my car, but the cotton-packed A/C bypass filters all perform about the same.
